Come kayak or paddleboard through quiet coves along the shoreline of Mountain Island Lake. The least developed of the three Catawba River-fed lakes in the area is home to fewer boats and lots of wildlife. We provide all the equipment dropped off right to you at Latta Nature Preserve's Gar Creek Kayak Only launch, rental includes everything you'll need for a fun and safe day on the lake! This is a self-guided rental. Other launch locations available upon request.
Directions to Gar Creek's - Kayak Only Ramp
If you are using Google Maps, search for "Kayak Only Ramp" use Latta Plantation as your destination, unfortunately Gar Creek doesn't have an street address. Gar Creek is located in Latta Plantation off of Sample Road, Huntersville, NC. You will take your first left turn after the Raptor Center before going under the power lines. Look for the "Gar Creek" sign on the right side of the road.
Note: if you are unable to pull up the Kayak Only Ramp, use the Raptor Center address of 6000 Sample Road and it will be 1000 feet past it on the left.
